The Thirlestane team were delighted to welcome the Antiques Roadshow in July as part of the 47th series of the award-winning programme.
This episode has now aired on BBC One and included some wonderful antique treasures such as a Louis Vuitton packing case, rare pieces by Scottish artist Richard Wawro, and a fighting knife which could date to the massacre of Glencoe in 1692.
The shows presenter, Fiona Bruce, was also shown Thirlestane’s vast collection of family portraits displayed in the State Dining Room. This was the first time the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow has visited Thirlestane, so it was wonderful to share stories of its 400-year history to the programme’s loyal television audience.
Edward Maitland-Carew commented, “Welcoming the Antiques Roadshow was a great privilege, and it was amazing to see the many pieces of artwork, artefacts and family treasures that were brought to be valued on the day.
“We hope the show encourages people to visit the Scottish Borders and the Castle, as there is an abundance of history and beautiful locations to be discovered.
Groups and private tours are welcome at Thirlestane year-round, and they can be arranged by contacting our team.
