With its own private access and exceptional views of the parkland, those staying in the Maitland Apartment can enjoy unrivaled accommodation in a romantic castle setting. The apartment has been recently created in the south wing in an area of Thirlestane Castle that was once the old laundries.
Guests can enjoy an eclectic mix of contemporary and original castle furniture and items from the collections including dramatic portraits of former castle residents.
The large, light-filled living area with a dining table and fully-equipped modern kitchen looks out over the parklands with several full height windows. There is a double bedroom with en-suite shower room while the second bedroom can be set up as either a twin or double bedroom. There is also a separate bathroom with shower.
The apartment is accessed from either the same level via the castle gardens or up a private staircase from the enclosed cobbled courtyard that guests are also able to use.
It is a ten-minute walk (one mile) into the local town of Lauder where visitors can enjoy a number of places to eat and shop. There is also an hourly bus service to the centre of Edinburgh.
Private tours of the castle can be arranged for guests while they are staying and there is the opportunity to hire the State Rooms or rustic Victorian Kitchens for exclusive, private dining.
