The Lauderdale Apartment in the south wing offers a luxury escape to visitors who wish to holiday in a genuinely historic Scottish castle. There is private access through the castle’s cobbled courtyard and the apartment overlooks Thirlestane Castle’s extensive parkland.
There is a relaxed, neutral palette throughout the living area and bathroom while the bedroom is finished in the striking blues and greens of the Maitland tartan as worn by the Maitland clan.
Guests can enjoy an open plan kitchen, dining and seating area. The spacious bedroom has a generous king-sized bed and there is a luxurious bathroom with a free-standing bathtub.
It is a ten-minute walk (one mile) into the local town of Lauder where visitors can enjoy a number of places to eat and shop. There is also an hourly bus service to the centre of Edinburgh.
A private tour of the castle is included for guests while they are staying and there is the opportunity to hire the State Rooms or rustic Victorian Kitchens for exclusive, private dining.
"I couldn't think of a more exciting place to stay, we secretly pretended it was our castle!"

“It was a long journey but as soon as we came through the gates and saw the Castle it was all worth it!”
