Summer of Events at Thirlestane
With the season now in full swing here at the castle we are looking forward to our special events that are taking place over the next couple of months.
First up is the BVAC Classic - Festival of Motoring, one of the 'biggest and best' car shows in the country according to the Sunday Times. It takes place this Sunday, 3rd June, and is expected to be bigger and better than ever with 1400 vintage and classic vehicles on display. There is also family entertainment in the main ring, a craft fair and the castle will also be open to visitors. You can purchase tickets online in advance or you can get them at the gate on the day. More information here.
A month later we welcome back Chapterhouse Theatre Company for an open-air performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream. The popular Shakespeare comedy will be performed on the castle's front lawn with the historic building as a dramatic back drop. Bring a picnic, perhaps a tipple to drink and a rug to sit on and we are sure you will have an entertaining evening. There will be a bar on the night serving drinks and snacks. Tickets are available now either at the castle or on the Border Events website. More details here.
Our final special event for 2018 is our Civil War-Re-Enactment Weekend on 28th and 29th July. The country's oldest re-enactment group, The Sealed Knot, will take you back to the Civil War era with skirmishes, military drills and a living history camp that you can walk around. Muskets and cannons will be fired across the castle parkland and you can even try on some armour and see what it feels like to be one of the soldiers. The castle will also be open on both days and entrance is included in your ticket. Tickets for this can also be purchased in advance or on the day. More information here.
