Events at Thirlestane Castle
Civil War Re-Enactment Weekend
Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th August 2019
The oldest re-enactment society, the Sealed Knot, is returning to Thirlestane Castle once again to bring to life the history of Scotland's involvement in the Civil Wars. Experience what life was like in the 17th Century for both the military and ordinary people.
Watch as battles and army drills are recreated in front of the castle and walk around an authentic military camp. The sound of muskets and cannons will reverberate around the castle and each day will finish with a skirmish complete with musketeers, pikemen and drummers.
In the camp you can watch how meals were cooked over open fires and even try on some of the soldier's armour. A series of displays will run throughout each day and children can even have a go at wielding a pike.
The Castle and Tea Room will be open throughout the weekend.
There is no extra cost for the Re-Enactment Weekend, the normal castle admission charge will apply. However, we will not be offering grounds tickets over this weekend and cannot accept annual passes as it is classed as one of our special events.
